BUT THEN WHY FALSE CHARTERS?
Were they invent a story glorious but falsified going back to Charlemagne, likely to please the local patriotism in the search for an ancient origin to fade Dax?
Perhaps, for the prefect, to recall the old rules of a religious policy similar to that practiced by the Napoleonic Empire and used against the opposition of the clergy?
