The town was called, until the fourteenth century, Saint Didier de Renom, then took the name of fief of Hugh Plantay who became the owner.

Ø Abbaye Notre-Dame-des-Dombes : Cistercian Abbey of redbrick founded in 1863, located 8 km Villars-les-Dombes. The abbey church was built by néobyzantine Bossan Stone, the architect of Notre-Dame de Fourviere Lyon and the Basilica of Ars. The church and chapel iconostasis with Byzantine style, are open to the public.

Ø Romanesque church of the XII : The Romanesque church Plantay rustic square tower has nave with a circular apse. On the west front, two capitals on columns decorate a bay. Sagittarius and horn on the capitals. A Gothic chapel was added to the north. Statue of Saint Anthony, patron of pig farmers from the sixteenth century. A 100 m before the cemetery, there was Mother St. Madeleine church destroyed in 1640. Camille de Neuville, archbishop of Lyon, erected in 1655, a cross at the site of the altar.

Ø Tour Plantay : The tower is the remnant of an ancient castle that was burned in 1460 by troops of the Duke of Bourbon that ravaged much of the Dombes. The castle was built by the lord of Plantay, Antoine de Saint Didier, a Poype overlooking the pond. The massive tower, round, brick is 19 m high . A parapet with battlements crowning the building.
